Acme is a Greek word meaning; the top, the highest point (zenith), or perfection. It's associated with the Nymph Acme in Greek Mythology. It was popularly used by business school textbooks in the late 1890s and early 1900s for examples of the best company or the best business practices. It's use in such examples lent to it's popularity outside of education with actually companies from the 1900s to the late 1930s utilizing it. the name has diminished in popularity but can still be found in use. One suspected reason for it's decline in use has been it's use in Loony-Tunes shorts for a company that manufactures everything though often of diminished or defective quality.
