Brick Mansions is a 2014 French-Canadian crime thriller film.
Plot[]
In 2018, in a dystopian Detroit, abandoned brick mansions left from better times house only the most dangerous criminals. Unable to control the crime, a colossal containment wall has been constructed around this area to protect the rest of the city. For undercover cop Damien Collier, every day is a battle against corruption. For French-Caribbean ex-convict Lino, every day is a fight to live an honest life. When drug kingpin Tremaine Alexander kidnaps Lino's girlfriend, Damien reluctantly accepts Lino's help and together they struggle to stop a sinister plot that involves a stolen bomb set to destroy the entire city.
Eventually, with the help of Lino and Tremaine, Damien realizes that his father was killed by his fellow officers and that the mayor was behind the plot. Damien, Lino and Tremaine confront the mayor and manage to prove his true intentions and have him arrested. Brick Mansions is welcomed back into the city, with Damien and Lino continuing their friendship.

The film was originally going to be a remake of the 2004 film District 13, a French Action film set in Paris during the then future year of 2010. The film District 13's plot sees a bomb being used to force a government agent to confess to an assassination plot and the wall around Paris to be dismantled. But Brick Mansions took on it's own narrative with a similar setting. The death of Paul Walker impacted the release date for the film.
