Californication

Californication is the alleged shift of economic, cultural, and political influence towards centralization around the state of California. Those who believe this process is taking place in the United States of America oft subscribe to a theory of conspiracy pertaining to an organized movement towards the eventual Hegemony of California over the rest of the United States. Those who do not simply believe this is a societal trend without any supreme organization involved in the process. Propagators of the Californication narrative frequently cite the social influence of California residents though they also utilize California policy that was adopted by the federal government, California laws that formed the basis of federal law, and other subjects as evidence.

History of the Theory

The theory arouse in the 1960s but wasn't popularized until the presidency of Ronald Reagan. It gained new traction in the 2010s with the prominence of California based corporations Facebook, Google, and YouTube (a subsidiary of Google).
