A sportsperson, (gendered as sportsman, or sportswoman) is a person trained to compete in a sport involving physical strength, speed, or endurance. In North America the term athlete is commonly used instead of sportsman/woman even though an Athlete is technically a person involved in sports categorized as Athletic Sports (Track and Field for example, or Competivie walking).
