Charlene Masters (portrayed by Janet MacLachlan) is a fictional character created by Don Ingalls for Star Trek: The Original Series. She was written into the episode "The Alternative Factor" which aired in 1967 during the show's first season. The character is a female Human Star Fleet engineer recently promoted to Lieutenant at the time of her first appearance (represented by the fact that she still wears an ensigns uniform). She serves aboard the USS Enterprise under the command of Captain James T. Kirk in the 23rd Century.
