In the game Fallout 2 Daniel Bird is the Enclave's Vice President of the United States of America in 2242. He perished with the destruction of the Poseidon Energy Oil Rig that year.
Biography[]
Nothing is stated about Bird's background prior to his political career though he was Dick Richardson's running mate. Bird is described as a small nervous-looking man wearing a food-stained suit. [1] Daniel was a volunteer test subject for an experimental vaccine against FEV (Forced Evolutionary Virus) Curling-13. It backfired, damaging his brain [possibly in some devolving way], which has resulted in him spending most of his post-inoculation time standing idly around in his office and mumbling to himself. President Richardson states that Bird is a national hero for having volunteered to test the vaccine and that there may be some unforeseen benefit to the tragedy as Bird's spelling ability has actually improved. [2] Most of Bird's monologue indicates that he is obsessed with the correct use of spelling and grammar.

[The Enclaves original plan before going the route of genocide was to escape Earth to settle on another planet. In game it is possible to repair the spaceship for use by Hubologists. Thus the plan was still viable and this dialogue indicates that it's a direction Vice President Bird would have preferred.]
- "That's not true, Republicans understand the importance of bondage between a mother and child. That's the key to the solution of all our problems-we need a return to family values."
- "The Holocaust was an obscene period in our nation's history. I mean in this century's history. But we all lived in this century. I didn't live in this century." [While a quote from Senator Dan Quayle in game it seems a reference to the Enclave's plan to exterminate all mutated Humans. The quote indicates that Danial Bird doesn't like what the Enclave is doing in that regard.]

- Daniel Bird is a Republican as indicated in dialogue and that indicates that President Dick Richardson is as well.
- The Curling-13 Vaccine, meant to prevent an individual from being killed by the bioengineered FEV variant Curling-13, would have to work on a genetic level just as the Forced Evolutionary Virus does in order to provide any immunity. Curling-13 is designed to kill any mutated organism e.i. any one or any animal that has mutated since the Great War. The fact that the Enclave has created a vaccine would indicate either a conflict over this plan, hypocrisy, or more likely that they took the wise course of creating counter measures to their own biological weapon.
- Directly killing Daniel Bird will give the player character bad karma in the game's morality system.
