The Galactic Federation is a fictional interstellar and multispecies civilization spanning various worlds. The Galactic Federation is highly bureaucratic and meritocratic in organization. It was introduced to Dungeons & Dragons by TSR during the franchises' early installments as part of the Blackmoor Setting of Dungeons & Dragons where a series of adventures starting with 'Temple of the Frog' involved a conflict between members of the stranded FSS Beagle on the world. The GF has a strict non-interference policy in civilizations lacking interstellar travel and when the survey ship crashed on the planet of Blackmoor's setting the captain restricted the crew to the wreck to avoid contamination of the pre-industrial civilization there. A fraction of the crew wanted instead to integrate due to the similar physiology and merely blend in but the Captain would not allow it. One of these individuals got away and formed the Temple of the Frog using his alien devices to mimic miracles and as a cover for his greenish tinted skin. The Galactic Federation has a lot of advanced technology including Hand Blasters. According to the FSS Beagle's survey prior to the crash magic in the world of Blackmoor derives from an anomaly that surrounds the planet, a field of electro-magnetic dust whose power is gradually dissipating. Crashed the crew's survey team surmised that 'magic' as used by the civilizations of that world would cease to function in two centuries time.
