Hellenism is a religion that was of major importance to the Roman Empire and that of Alexander the Great and for centuries dominated the Mediterranean Sea. Practitioners of Hellenism are known as Hellenes. Hellenistic means 'like or resembling' the beliefs and practices of Hellenes' though it is often used as a synonym for 'Greek like' due to the Greeks being the originators of the religion and thus closely associated with it.
