Joel Robinson MST3K

Joel Robinson was a janitor at the Gizmonic Intitute who was shot into space by his employers as part of an experiment to study the effects of television on the Human mind- with the intent of discerning what qualities in films could destroy the Human mind. Though there was a flaw in their plan in that Joel could stop the films at anytime to take a break when ever he felt like it and thus his mind could recover intermediately while viewing the films provided. Though in time his mind still wore a bit, due to his loneliness in the solitude of space, and desperate for company beyond transmissions from those who put in in that state of isolation- he built three robots (Beeper who became Tom Servo, Gypsium who became Gypsy, and Crow) with which to interact with and to assist in maintaining the station as having to do so alone had also wore down his mind. He used the the parts that allowed him to control when a film played and when to pause them to create these companions. His mental state was not well when the bots first began to interact with him- he was delusional- believing himself an Alien and started sending his invention ideas to his captors believing he was enlightening Humanity with his brilliance. This eventually evolved into the 'Invention Exchange' as Joel regained his sanity- remembering who he was and who he was actually talking to back on Earth..
