La'an Noonien-Singh is a character in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.

Biography[]

Background[]

Descended from 21th century dictator Khan Noonien Singh, La'an found herself bullied in school. This treatment lead her to resent her heritage and to hold a negative view on augments. Enough to consider her ancestor and all augments to be homicidal psychopaths'. Despite this her heritage had given her a greater strength and sharper mind than her fellow students and she excelled despite others trying to bring her down. While still of school age, La'an and her older brother boarded a private colony ship which unknowingly entered into Gorn space where it was beset, and captured by the Gorn who deposited them on a Nursery Planet to serve as food and breeding sacs for their young. There, hunted night and day, La'an lost her brother. Using information he relayed to her about the Gorn before his passing La'an managed to survive. [2] As communication with the Gorn have never been established the reasons for what they choose to do with her can only be speculated upon. What they choose to do was, in a ritualistic ceremony, after she became the last survivor of the colony group to place her in a small vessel and send her back towards her people. She's stated to be one of the few who this has ever happened to, and her own speculation is that it was like tossing a bit of one's catch back into the river. Given what little she was provided in the craft she also speculates that she was never meant to survive but she did. After being rescued she set about becoming a member of Star Fleet due to the impact those who picked her up had on her after all that she'd been through in Gorn space.
