The Little Green Men (aka LGMs) are members of the Galactic Alliance and the primary but not only technicians in service to the galactic protection agency known as Star Command in the animated Buzz Lightyear of Star Command series.
History[]
Background[]
LGMs come from a planet whose name is established as unpronounceable in the show. In their early history each LGM was it's own individual. Strife and inefficiency where rampant. This era was put to an end with the creation of the UniMind. A powerful orb like object that brought all LGMs into a single shared consciousness. Many years after achieving this state of total cooperation and unity the LGMs encountered the Galactic Alliance. Shortly after the collective consciousness (or hivemind as the GA classifies it) aspect of the LGMs was determined to be something to remain a secret for the ears of those who need to know only. They became Star Commands primary technicians and researchers- maintaining the vital functions of their headquarters and managing R&D.
Buzz Lightyear of Star Command[]
Learning of the UniMind from Warp Darkmatter the Evil Emperor Zurg captured the UniMind causing the LGMs to loose their shared consciousness and much of their communal telepathic abilities. Individuals for the first time in a long unstated amount of time (likely centuries) the LGMs where inefficient and many of them lacked knowledge of the tasks they would usually perform as such knowledge had derived from the UniMind or their shared telepathic link. They continued to cooperate with each other to get their UniMind back and served Star Command during this crisis to the best each individual could. Once restored the UniMind brought the LGMs back to their usual efficient selves.
Nature of the UniMind[]
Each LGM is an individual before joining with the UniMind which brought peace to their planet. This joining is at a young age and certain skills and knowledge derive from the UniMind thus there are no schools of higher learning. The LGMs are not mindless drones, each is an individual sharing commonality in thoughts, sensations, and other factors pertaining to consciousness. They still have their own selves which at times speak (always in agreement) with other LGMs. The UniMind is not oppressive, it's simply unifying as a medium for the sharing of thought and feeling between each LGM.
Production Notes[]
The LGMs inclusion in the Buzz Lightyear of Star Command series was one of the reasons the team at Pixar didn't like the series. They made a point that as the LGMs do not recognize Buzz in Toy Story (nor Buzz the LGMS) they could not have come from the same franchise.
