Muhammad: The Last Prophet is a 2002 animated quranic epic produced by Bahr International, and directed by Richard Rich. The film focuses on the early days of Islam, and Muhammad. As per Islamic tradition no actual image of the prophet appears in the film, but rather every scene where he is present is shown from his perspective, and his words are paraphrased by the narrator. Thus the film has been approved by the Council of Al-Azhar Al-Shareef (Islamic Research Academy) and the Supreme Islamic Shiite Council of Lebanon. The film uses the fictional character of Malek and his family to explore the origins of Islam and the life of the prophet Muhammad. The film has a run time of 95 minutes.
The film is related to three other films directed by Richard Rich; Before the Light, Salman the Persian, and Great Woman of Islam. Before the Light serves as a prequel with Muhammad's grandfather Abdul-Muttalib as the main character. Salman the Persian runs in analogue with the films narrative and focuses on Salman as the main character. Great Woman of Islam includes analogue narratives and future narratives taking place beyond the life of Muhammad.
