Suzerain Cleolanthe of the planet Officius
Officiuns are the Humanoid natives of the now destroyed planet Officius in the 1950s science fiction TV show 'Rocky Jones, Space Ranger'.
Language[]
The native Officiun language is rarely spoken on screen even when Officiuns are speaking among themselves but we do know a few words. Govenaux means Government and Nintendo en Toe means Roger and Out. The Earth woman Vera Ray was a translator during an Earth-Officius exchange of scientist and had become familiar with the Officiun country and language prior to serving in such a function.
Relations with the United Worlds[]
The Officius Group (a league or perhaps hegemony of planets) came into contact with the United Worlds at some point and established an area of space known as 'the Curtain'. Early relations seemed promising with the United Worlds constructing an Embassy on Officius, and the signing of a treaty that established that regardless of allegiance vessels in distress are to be aided by the nearest capable party. The universal distress call of 'Kalypso' was likely established at this time. Relations where smooth enough for an exchange of scientist to take place- but then Officius changed it's disposition towards the United Worlds. Officius was interested in acquiring a chemical formula devised by Professor Newton but Newton found that the formula did not function the same way it had on Earth when utilizing Offician material. This frustrated the Officiuns enough to alter their policy towards Earth and it's allies in the United Worlds. They intimidated Newton into remaining on Officius (in a way that staged his desertion) and requested the closure of the United Worlds Embassy. From that point on the Ophecius Group and the United Worlds where at odds. It would not be until the destruction of Ophecius that Ophecians would turn to the United Worlds for assistance again.
History[]
The Ophecian government was highly independent and refused membership in the United Worlds; a federation of planets joined for their common welfare and security. Shortly after first contact was made with the Suzerain (Upper Sovereign) of Officius it became illegal for citizens to contact aliens (none Ophecians), even possessing an interplanetary radio became illegal. Yet individual Officians, curious about worlds beyond their own did so despite the punishment that would befall them if caught. The Officiuns quickly became the United World's number one threat next to piracy as the Officiuns did their best to disrupt the United Worlds. One of their most common tactics was to turn people in the United Worlds against one another either through promises of power or at times mind control. When these methods failed the Officiuns resorted to impersonating officials. This conflict (which never erupted into full scale war) came to an end when the runaway planet of Posita collided with Officius. The Officiuns where warned a head of time, as too where the people of the planet Posita. When Officius received word of this impeding doom Suzerain Cleolanthe devised a plan to destroy Posita before it reached Officius. Her military adviser suggested the planet be destroyed after Posita evacuated it's people, but Cleolanta realizing that by then debris from Posita would still impact Ophecius ordered an attack on Posita well before it could cause any harm. The United Worlds attempted reasoning with Cleolanta but ended up having to disable her ship and return her to Ophecius where the United Worlds, with assistance from Ophecian military and civil authorities began an evacuation of the planet. Cleolanta refused to go but one of her assistants would not take no for an answer and brought her forcefully to the evacuation ships. Moments latter Ophecius was destroyed; Cleolanthe was emotionally crushed- what did she rule now? She expressed this to those around her finding herself weak for the first time in many years. To the surprise of many the leader of Posita came to her side and expressed that both of their people are in the same situation- both have lost their homeworld- but a nation is not made of land alone. He expressed that Cleolanthe has a people to lead- people who have just lost the life they once knew- people who need a leader to guide them through this time of lose. Then, for the first time, Cleolanthe accepted help from the United Worlds- help in finding a new home for the people of Ophecius and Posita.
