
Paracelsus, born Philippus Aureolus Theophrastus Bombastus von Hohenheim on November 11 or December 17, 1493 was a Swiss-German alchemist, astrologer, bontanist, physician, and general occultist who is now remembered as the father of toxicology, which is the science of poisons, and the study of toxic mateiral. He is also credidted with giving zinc it's name, calling it zincum.
He was also a medical critic whose insights lead to the empirical method of medicine. His theories, and medical therapies became center in a reform movement known as Paracelsianism which focused on harmony between the micro (man), and macrocosm (nature).
He died at 47 in Salzberg on September 24, 1541.
