Pranks a Lot is a SpongeBob SquarePants episode from season three. In this episode, SpongeBob and Patrick use invisibility spray to play pranks.

Pranks a Lot

SpongeBob and Patrick go to the Palace of Pranks, a prank store in search of the ultimate prank. To their delight, the manager named Frank sells them a rare can of invisible paint for just one dollar. Before they use it, Patrick remembers that the paint will stain clothes, and then he and SpongeBob take their clothes off so they aren't stained with the invisible paint. They decide to spray a park bench and sit on it, but get in an argument over who gets to spray the bench. During the fight, they spray each other until "several bad puns later", they are both completely invisible.

After asking a man for the time and accidentally scaring him away, SpongeBob realizes that he and Patrick can pretend to be ghosts and prank the whole town. They pretend to be ghosts and go around frightening everyone (moving things around in Sandy's treedome, eating a cake Mrs. Puff was going to eat, painting a moustache on Squidward's face, etc.), until Mr. Krabs, who "ain't afraid of no ghosts", is the last person in Bikini Bottom to be haunted. They attempt to frighten him and succeed until they attempt to burn a dollar bill. Mr. Krabs' fear is overcome by his love of money, and he attempts to extinguish the match with a bucket of water. The invisible spray is washed off of Patrick and SpongeBob, exposing their identities, and their nudity.

Though embarrassed, Mr. Krabs comforts SpongeBob and Patrick by saying he forgives them and was fond of pulling pranks in his youth. However, when they attempt to leave, the Krusty Krab now contains nearly everyone in Bikini Bottom, and Mr. Krabs showcases the "live, nude pranksters". An extremely embarrassed SpongeBob and Patrick try to cover themselves, and SpongeBob says "We should've bought the whoopie cushion!" as the episode ends.

  • This episode shows Patrick loves Seanut Brittle.
  • In this episode it mentions that Spongebob has a right hand, in the episode "Neptunes Spatula" Spongebob only has two left hands.

  • It is revealed in this episode that Sandy is originally from Austin, TX. (When her escape pod lands it's in the Austin area.)
  • In the Spanish version of the episode, the fish that says "toast" says "Fantasmas", or "ghost", in the Filpino dub he says "gusto nyo?", or "want some?", In the Hebrew version, he says "sandwich"; in Korean, he says "What's that?", in Indonesian version the fish says "Hantu (Indonesian version translated "Ghost")", not "Toast".
  • The specter deflector and the escape pod to Texas have incidentally been seen on two other Nickelodeon shows, Danny Phantom and The Fairly OddParents, respectively.
  • The prank toys Frank offers to SpongeBob are a Joy Buzzer, Exploding Chewing Gum, Fake Gag Dollar, Whoopie Cushion, Fake and Real Vomit, and Invisible Spray.
  • The title card design is a reference to old-fashioned newspaper ads for pranks.
  • The Dutch title of this episode is "Top of the fops" (fop means prank in Dutch), which is a pun of a British music program called Top Of The Pops. But at the Dutch version of the DVD "The Seascape Capers" this episode is listed as "SpongeBob is onzichtbaar" (SpongeBob is invisible) instead of "Tops of the Fops".
  • This is the fifth episode that SpongeBob is shown naked, after "Ripped Pants", "Nature Pants", "The Paper", and "Hooky".
  • The episode name is a pun on "Thanks a lot."
  • The title card music is the same from SpongeBob showing Patrick's parents how smart he is in "I'm with Stupid"

  • Sandy's rocket breaks the surface of the water in the Pacific Ocean near the bottom of South America, revealing Bikini Bottom's location, and gives how it can snow in Bikini Bottom because of its location.
    • Sandy's Rocket also made a reference from the "Ed, Edd, n Eddy" episode "Run! Ed! Run!" when Both Ed, Double D, and Eddy's contraption and Sandy's Rocket were heading towards the sky, However Hers did not make the sky crack and Ed, Double D, and Eddy's did. How did that happen?

  • When SpongeBob asked a guy what time it is, he says that it's 10 to 3 (2:50), but captions say that it's 3:00. Also in Bahasa Indonesia version of this title, instead of saying it's 10 to 3, the guy said it's 10:03.
  • Mrs. Puff never deflates turning very thin, As in other episodes, she deflates back to normal size. She may have possibly deflated out of fright.
  • When Sandy is frightened by the "ghosts", her escape pod breaks the Treedome. Sandy said the dome was made of polyurethane (plastic) in "Tea at the Treedome", rather than glass. Furthermore, the dome is not flooded with water and is fixed in the next shot.
