Rebecca Ann Latimer Felton (Maiden name, Latimer; June 10, 1835 – January 24, 1930) was an advocate for woman's suffrage, prison reform, and education reform. She was a writer and politician most known today for being the last slave owner and first woman to serve as Senator in the US Senate though she only served a day in that office due to special elections with her appointment being temporary until those elections concluded. She was a prominent figure in the first wave of American feminism and an outspoken white supremacist whose August 11, 1896 speech to members of the Georgia State Agricultural Society was used by private newspapers of the era to advocate for the Democratic Party. In 1929 she was interviewed on film regarding the Trail of Tears. She completed her final book, The Romantic Story of Georgia's Woman in 1930 before her passing on the twenty-fourth day of January that year.
