Richard M. Nixon (b. January 9, 1913 – d. April 22, 1994) was the 37th President of the United States. He served from 1969 until 1974. He brought the US into the Vietnam Conflict by way of executive order, thus bypassing the need for Congress to declare war. He became embroiled in a personal scandal that damaged his reputation, and caused him to resign, the only President ever to do so.
