living person in Japan, following the death of the then oldest living recognized person Yone Minagawa six days earlier. She died of natural causes in a home for the elderly in Ogōri, Fukuoka Prefecture. She had eight children, 22 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. After her death, fellow 113-year-old Tsuneyo Toyonaga became the oldest-living person in Japan.

In May 2011, she was in the addendum of the 100 longest lived women but has since been supplemented and In May 2009, Nakano was listed in the addendum of the list of the 100 longest lived people ever, she has since also been supplanted.
