Snake is a character who appears during end credits for each episode of Fish Hooks. She and her friend Mouse are established in Episode 1 as watching the fish protagonist of the show from their terrarium. Typically snake and mouse have some gag scene related to an element of the episode such as adulthood, football, or humor. She's a Western Diamondback Rattlesnake and is nineteen years old which in the high school themed narrative of Fish Hooks makes her a teen like the majority of the shows cast.
Biography[]
Background[]
Snake and Mouse share a Terrarium and are both on sale at Bud's Pet Shop for $1.49. The show doesn't established how they became friends nor how they met. General fandom consensus is that Mouse was a feeder given to Snake to eat and that for some reason Snake didn't. Like the other characters they could leave their Terrarium at anytime but despite complaining about the size prefer to stay in such except to get something to eat. According to Snake her life prior to being in the Terrarium was one of adventure in which she climbed tall buildings, fought crime, and went snow skiing. She knows a bit more about the outside world than Mouse, as indicated by her warning Mouse of the dangers out there.
Fishhooks[]
Snake and Mouse make their first appearance in episode one where it's revealed they've been watching the fish. Snake has a remote that can turn lights on and off in other tanks and she uses it with Mouse to 'channel surf' so they don't get bored. The two are often doing things to not be bored through out the show, including once throwing a party that proved to be too crowded to handle. Mouse is shown to be younger than Snake, which accounts for her general lack of knowledge about the outside world and somewhat demanding childish ways. At one point, Mouse purchased some X-Ray Glasses and put them on declaring that no secrets would be hidden from her. Snake watched a little amused even as Mouse stopped with a distance stare after putting them away. She asked Mouse what she saw but wasn't told, mouse simply after expressing "OMG" telling her friend that it was awesome. Snake suggested they get some ice cream.
Unaware to snake Mouse had saw various rodent bones within Snake, learning a truth that had been kept secret. Snake wouldn't learn that Mouse knew until Snake ate Mouse's father in Season 2. We don't know what became of that only that Mouse was disturbed. [episode "So-Fish-ticated"] Despite this the two are shown to continue to be friends suggesting some positive resolution off screen. In 'Halloween Haul' Snake and Mouse's terrarium is one of the many trick-or-treating fish come to much to Snake's delight as she loves watching the fish. She gave them a very full bowl of candy that year.
In their final appearance, Snake is tricked into eating her own tail by Mouse and ends up eating herself out of existence. Mouse implies that she's done this before and such is the last seen of her in the show.
Personality[]
Snake has a bubbly excitable personality, aside from one twelve second fight with Mouse, she's never yelling and always smiling. She loves life, doesn't want to be sold (having put up signs around the Terrarium to discourage anyone from purchasing her and Mouse), and while the space is small hardly leaves her terrarium apparently finding it safer than the world she use to roam in even while she misses the adventure of it. Despite all this she is still a snake and a bit of the show's humor derives from the realities of what she is. One episode suggests that she views Mouse more as a Pet than a friend though the majority of interactions suggests otherwise.
Snake has ingested a few things throughout the show; a football, Mouse's father, Bud the store owner, a can of soda, a hard candy, a cup of water, the Cat, and Mouse. In Mouse's case it was temporarily while under the effects of a heat lamp which she says makes her act strangely. She informs Mouse that while she appreciates the gift, the impact it has on her behavior is why she never bothered to get one.
Snake, as part of the show's humor, occasionally hints at her predatory side but as seen in the one instance where she did ingest Mouse she really doesn't want to. She struggled a bit to keep from swallowing Mouse all the way and to get her back up. Mouse by season three seems to have mentally adjusted to Snake though gone a little crazy doing so.
