Weltraumschiff 1 startet is a 1940 German Science Fiction short film about man's first mission to the Moon. It has a run time of 23 minutes. It premiered in Berlin as part of a film festival in July 1940 and was released to theaters on November 7, 1940

Action[]

It's June 13, 1963 at the Friedrichshafen airship shipyard. The director of the shipyard announces a manned rocket flight to the moon and provides a brief summary of the advancements in Rocket technology and details of space travel including the mission to circumnavigate the Moon. Commadore Hardt who has invented the rocket will be commanding the mission and is interviewed via radiovision (comparable to video calling) prior to launch. The rocket propels up a ski ramp into space and navigates around the moon before returning to the Earth.

Notes on the Setting[]

  • The film is set in a Europe post war in a then future 1960 where in Germany, under the Nazi Party, has survived the war as evident by the Swastika on various prototype rocket plane designs behind the shipyard's director during his presentation.
