The State of Palestine is a Mediterranean nation in the South Levant region of West Asia. While only recognized by 146 of the United Nations 193 members it holds official observer status and has applied for full member status numerous times. It claims Jerusalem as it's capital, a city presently serving as the capital of the State of Israel which claims the state's entire territory. In like fashion the State of Palestine claims all of Israel's territory. Both it and Israel claim to be the legal government over the region of Palestine which formerly held status as a League of Nations Mandate. The current president of Palestine is Mahmoud Abbas of the Fatah political party.
