Texas is red.

Texas is the second-largest U.S state after Alaska and the largest in the contiguous United States. It is also the second most populated at 26 million, after California.


Texas was originally a territory claimed by the Spaniards in the 16th century. But the territory was constantly invaded and annexed by four more countries, making it usually in-between the lines of abandoned and occupied.

In the 1800's, Mexico claimed Texas as its own. Many tensions rose in Texas, which later led to the Texas Revolution revolt and the famous Siege of the Alamo in 1835. Although the rebels were defeated, the tensions led Mexico to abandon Texas. A constitution signed by the United States of America in 1845 resulted in Texas peacefully becoming the 28th U.S state.

Texas' economy rose after it becoming a U.S state. Trading soared, wealthiness increased and many money was made in Texas. Texas also became richer in 1901 when a large oil well was discovered underneath it, dubbed the Great Texas Oil Boom. But, a bill was passed in the United States that introduced poll tax. As a result, many Texans became poor, mostly different race-class people.

Texas faced severe bankruptcy, along with the rest of the United States when the Great Depression occurred. Many people became poor, and few relied on growing their own food to feed themselves, but this worsened when the series of dust storms called the Dust Bowl ravaged the makeshift farms, making people poorer and starving.

Texas changed its tone during World War II when its large size meant it could fit many things on it. Weaponry bases, POW bases, missile launchers and others were stored in Texas. When the war ended in 1945, Texas became richer and more iconic in the United States.

The city of Dallas in Texas received international attention on 22nd November 1963 when it was the location of where President John F. Kennedy was assassinated by gunman, Lee Harvey Oswald.


  • Many associate Texas with cowboys. This is due to small 10-year era in Texas in the 1830's of which there were cowboys and many western films are set in Texas.
  • Many also associate Texas with the death penalty as it executes more criminals than any other U.S state.
  • Texas is popular for is different terrains, as its large size means it runs through many terrains, such as desert, swamps and marshlands.
