The Nerevarine is the protagonist of The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind. While the character's race and sex are defined by the player in game; the Nerevarine is canonically a male Dunmer born sometime prior to 3e 427 when the events of the video game take place. The Nerevarine is a savior figure, born of prophecy and believed to be the incarnation of Azura or at the least the incarnation of Azura's will. [1] While also being the reborn Indoril Nerevar. The spiritual of the Nerevarine is such that Azura and the Nerevarine exist simultaneously and separately. During the events of Morrowind the Nerevarine fulfilled the prophecy of The Seven Visions. He then traveled to the island of Solsteim where he did battle with the Daedric Prince Hircine in order to free the Skaal from Hircines hunts, where his werewolves targeted the Skaal as prey. The fight resulted in the glacier the battle took place on to fall into the sea while Hircine's defeated manifested mortal form vowed to return. Following the events of Morrowind and Bloodmoon the Nerevarine traveled Tamriel before voyaging by sea to the lost continent of Atmora where he found only 'frozen kings'. During the events of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion the Nerevarine was rumored to have departed from Tamriel again, setting sail for the continent of Akavir. It is not known if this is true, and if true if he ever returned from that continent. [2]

- Slavery in Fiction: As part of the main story line of The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind the player character needs to convince three Ashlander tribes that they are indeed the Nerevarine of prophecy. One of the tribes is the Zainab and the quest involved in gaining their recognition tasks the player character with finding the Chief a Televani woman to marry. [3] As it's impossible Sonummu Zabamat has the player character purchase an enslaved Dunmer woman, dress her in fancy clothes, and present her to the Chief of the Zainab to be wed to him. In this capacity the Nerevarine is canonically a slave owner, if only temporarily so. Players can interact with the slave trade in various other ways in the game- purchasing slaves if they wish or aiding a faction liberating the enslaved. As such it's entirely possible to play the Nerevarine as an abolitionist and still end up being a slave owner, temporarily, to complete the main quest.
