The Sorceress is the primary antagonist of the game Spyro: Year of the Dragon. A powerful saurian being who rules the 'Forgotten Worlds', she sends her apprentice (Bianca) and a number of Rynoc soldiers to abduct dragon eggs from the Dragon World initiating her antagonistic role. She has been voiced by Flo Di Re (2000) and Crissy Jones (2018).

Background[]
A thousand years ago the Sorceress lived alongside Dragons on their original worlds of Evening Lake, Midday Gardens, Midnight Mountain, and Sunrise Springs. Here the Artisans, Beast Makers, Magic Makers, and Peace Keepers operated. One day the Sorceress had an argument with Astor, an Artisan dragon. The specifics of the argument are largely forgotten by Dragons and the Sorceress was perhaps the last person to remember fully what had transpired. What ever it was the argument was over the Sorceress became so furious that she banished Astor and then all the dragons from the four worlds. In the years that followed she asserted herself as sovereign over those worlds. Gradually, over a thousand years magic began to fade from the four worlds. Portals that once kept the worlds connected allowing her to govern her realm efficiently began to shut down. Resistance grew, and at last she understood- Dragons where the source of Magic in the four worlds. But there was more to it, her own magic was fading and she determined that she would die without it. Due to these conditions the Sorceress instructed her apprentice, Bianca, whom she had taken in some years ago- to travel to the Dragon World and bring her all of the eggs there.
Spyro: Year of the Dragon[]
The Sorceress allowed Bianca to believe that the reason for doing so was to return magic to the worlds, restore the portals, and stabilize the realm. In reality the Sorceress was more concerned and haunted by the belief in her coming demise should magic fade. Devising instead a plan to use the wings of dragon hatchlings for a spell that would make her immortal. She was delighted when Bianca returned with the eggs, the mission to obtain all the Dragon Eggs from the Dragon World a success. Learning that a dragon (Spyro) followed Bianca back seemed more like a slight nuisance at first. Something her apprentice could handle. Learning that Bianca tried to scare the dragon away, and failed made her angry. Telling Bianca that she should use magic, and frustrated that her apprentice didn't use such in her attempt she gives Bianca a book of spells to summon a monster to deal with the dragon. She watches as her apprentice transforms a Rynoc gardener, Buzz, into a big mouthed green toad monster with the Gardner's cooperation. This monster failed, and the Sorceress took over the task of creating monsters to face the dragon. Eventually, with her stock of dragon eggs decreasing as the dragon recovered the eggs and her frustration at her subjects and Bianca grew she made it bluntly known what she intended to do with the dragons and how much she hates them in an outburst that lost her Bianca's loyalty. But dealing with Bianca seemed to her such a simple matter that it could wait until she had defeated the dragon. With Bianca's assistance the dragon entered the Sorceress's lair and seemed to have defeated her. But in truth, the Sorceress was still alive and during their second confrontation- after the dragon had recovered all of the eggs taken, she took the challenge he posed more seriously. In fact, she was a bit afraid and rightly so as such was her last stand. Thanks again in part to Bianca, who provided a flying saucer to the dragon, the Sorcereess was defeated. With her defeat the four worlds where free and thanks to the dragon eager to see dragon kind return to the worlds.

Species[]
The Sorceress's species is never stated in the game nor manual leaving such to speculation. The general consensus, given the presence of Dinosaurs in a place called Dinosaur Mines in her homeworld of Midnight Mountain, is that she is a Dinosaur as was Ripto in the previous game; Spyro: Ripto's Rage. The Beast Makers had created Dinosaurs to be like Dragons and this seemed to have caused some issues. Dinosaur Mines is also the only world with rabbits like Bianca (anthropomorphic) inhabiting it. Ripto's Rage has lore that expresses that Magic and Dinosaurs don't mix, while Dinosaurs have forms like Dragons they lack the innate spark that allows for elemental breath among other things. Ripto used a scepter, the Sorceress uses a scepter too. The implication, if she is a Dinosaur, is that she would have banished the dragons from their original worlds prior to Ripto's actions which in turn got him banished by the Dragons.
