Starfield United Colonies Emblem

The United Colonies is a fictional interstellar government in Bethesda's video game Starfield. It like the Freestar Collective consists of four star systems. In the UC's case those systems are Alpha Centauri, Sol, Toliman, and Wolf. Of those systems only Alpha Centauri and Sol have more than a military presence. Toliman use to be the site of Londinion, one of the UC's largest cities. It's destruction has left the UC's capital of New Atlantis [1] as the uncontested cultural center of the UC.

Economy[]

Currency[]

The United Colonies utilizes the same digital currency as the Freestar Collective; Credits of which the self funded, self regulating, and self protected GalBank corporation headquartered in New Atlantis issues. [2]

Domestic Corporations[]

Much of the United Colonies economic power has been lost. Lunar Robotics and Nova Galactic are both no longer producing products though their products continue to endure and be used throughout the Settled Systems. Domestic starship manufacturing is provided by Deimos Staryards Inc with all other starships being produced in the Freestar Collective, especially since Hopetech's branch in Londinion is no longer operational. Deimos had a domestic competitor before the Colony War, that being Eklund Shipbuilders which was headquartered in Londinion. Eklund Shipbuilders merged with the Stroud corporation to become Stroud-Eklund, a company headquartered in the Freestar Collective city of Neon.

Government[]

The United Colonies is a federal presidential republic with executive power being held by a president elected by the citizens; with citizenship in the UC being given to those who have served in its military.

History[]

Establishment[]

Centaurus Proclamation[]

In 2161 the United Colonies issued the Centaurus Proclamation which formalized the open colonization of distant worlds beyond Alpha Centauri. The hope was that these independent worlds would join the United Colonies however such hope was not communicated in the proclamation leaving those who did not share this hope to do something different. In 2188 two of the worlds colonized following this proclamation; Akila and Volii Alpha formed their own interstellar union: the Freestar Collective, a decision that was seen as a challenge to the sovereignty of the United Colonies.

Narion War[]

In 2195 the United Colonies established a star station in the Narion system, officially for humanitarian efforts. The Clinic was to provide healthcare to those mining the system and it was hoped this service would sway the system into joining the United Colonies. However, as the station was placed there under presumed approval the residents of the Narion system saw it as an intrusion upon their independence and what was meant to sway the planet of Deepala into joining the United Colonies did the opposite- the residents voting to join the Freestar Collective instead. As the United Colonies had yet to formally recognized the Freestar Collective it refused to acknowledge Narion's decision leading to conflict over jurisdiction with both the United Colonies and Freestar Collective attempting to police the system. This finally erupted into the Narion War. The aftermath of this conflict was the signing of the Narion Treaty which limited both the Freestar Collective and United Colonies to three star systems thus solidifying that neither faction would expand beyond temporary outposts for mining, agriculture, research, and other purposes. This treaty was mediated by House Va'ruun- which like the Freestar Collective had established it self as a government outside of UC control following the Centaurus Proclamation. It had revealed its self to both warring powers in the year 2230. Like the two warring powers these limitations on expansion where agreed to by House Va'ruun as well limiting its growth to only three star systems.

Serpent's Crusade[]

For a decade the United Colonies had peace, but such was breached by House Va'ruun which launched the Serpent's Crusade after a decade of missionary work and exploration of the two previously warring factions. This conflict saw the United Colonies and Freestar Collective both cooperate to repel the invasion by a force that had not spent thirty-five years in an interstellar war.

Colony War[]

Post Armistice[]

Military[]

Unlike the Freestar Collective the United Colonies has a clear divide between Civilian and Military personnel. The UC Vanguard is a volunteer branch of the UC Navy [3] through which individuals are given a path to citizenship through volunteer service as opposed to professional service.
