Zenas Winsor McCay (c. 1867-71 or September 26, 1869 - July 26, 1934) was an American Animator, and Cartoonist who performed Chalk Talks for Vaudeville shows. He pioneered various animation techniques that would be used for days to come. His best known work is Gertie the Dinosaur, a film, and act, where he seems to interact with the character by giving Gertie commands, and even being lifted onto Gerties back. His work is amazing for his time, at one point being hailed as 'necromancy' in response to his 1918 work The Sinking of the Luisitania, which is the world's first animated documenary.
